I passed by the place that will eventually be leveled to develop a brand new mega airport between Warsaw and Łódź. I made a very quick stop in the middle of nowhere and made just these four photos, as the whole place's eerie vibe is like the world is ending and you're not supposed to be there. The village where I found that sign next to a running demolition of a barn in village Duninopol, you can't find that place on Google Streetview.
Project plan of CPK from 2022
I haven't found the most recent plans, here's the link to the official website with project localisation section. I thought about making my own map of that place, but I don't know which project is the final version and it's too much of a hassle. I crossed the area designated to be manouvering field for planes, right next to those three blue dots in the middle of the map.
Podbuszyce village
Place signs are green, this one wasn't maintained for a long time. The fields on the left side of the photo will become the runway green fields. I don't know what will happen with buildings in that village, apparently it's on a very edge of the designated airport area, so houses might survive although without adjacent farms, or this whole area will completely transform into warehouse districts or whatever.
Open field in Duninopol
In the next decade this whole area will be a runway with terminal buildings in the distance.
Demolition site in Duninopol
Slightly on the left (not visible) there was an active demolition of abandoned farm buildings so I didn't want to make direct photos. This info sign tells who is the investor, the dates are only related to the completion of the demolition, the actual construction may start in late summer 2026 (probably). The landscape on the distance will be covered in adjacent commercial buildings of the terminal.
This time I visited this place specifically to take a look what is happening and the area is even more busy with the demolition crews than previously in June 2025. Also there were much more signs on the sideways to fields that prohibit entering them. I didn't take many pictures, there were many "Private property" signs so I don't want to bother anybody.
I was thinking whether to get a bit closer to the area of a future terminal and main railway station, but some roads were unpaved and partially blocked by trucks and I didn't want to be asked what am I doing there since in normal circumstances those roads lead to nowhere. I'm sure any outgoing journalist might just drive straight to that place, said everybody that they want to make some pictures, and the workers might let them, but I'm not, I just wanted to look around.
Road pointing directly to the planned northern runway in Strumiany
One of the protest sign said "Don't destroy the good soil" and seeing so many well equipped farms in the area, it's true that they get to loose pretty productive land. Those fields will be probably cleared to be a greenbelt for the runways.
View on wind turbines in Strumiany
Hardly visible on this photo, but there are two short wind turbines that today stand on planned apron.
One of the protest signs in adjacent area in Kaski
The closer you get to the site, the more protest signs there is, although this village won't be affected directly, it may cause some permament noise pollution in the future.
Giant protest sign in Skrzelew
Some people protest shows they dissaproval in a big way. That farm with silos will inevitably be affected as it sits on proposed Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facility. It's hardly visible, but on the top there is a sign "NIE DLA CPK" (No to Central Airport) and a cartoon of a field with rams and a helicopter above. I honestly don't know what that means, but I guess it have something to do with the village Baranów - the municipality where this airport is planned. "Baranów" as a word can be translated as either "rams village" or conjugated with the word "Odloty" - "Departures" it means "Departures of the rams". In Polish calling someone a ram is offensive, but not vulgar, it basically means that someone is dumb and often goes where someone leads without thinking. I have no clue what "#15X" means I guess all of this is some pun towards local politicians, but I'm familiar with that regional politics.
New and old town signs
I saw that sign from my car and didn't have time to make photo myself, but this white sign is still there. White signs with black letters that indicated the beginning and end of town or village were replaced by modern green version fully introduced in 2005. Very few old signs left, this one in at the beginning of a hamlet that is about a couple hundred meters from the future airport area - it will be intact, but the view directly in the distance from that point will change drastically.
